John Cheng serves as the Head of Film & Television for 3AD, which has a first look television deal with Amazon Studios. John is spearheading 3AD’s initiative to become a global brand name in commercial and critically acclaimed content from diverse storytellers.

Cheng previously was the President of Film/TV at Kevin Hart’s HartBeat Productions where he oversaw the company’s first-look deal with Universal Studios, as well as all television development and production. He was instrumental in setting up and developing numerous projects for Hart to star in but also just produce.

Prior to HartBeat, Cheng was Head of Film/TV Development at RatPac Entertainment, which had a slate financing deal and a first look producing deal with Warner Bros Studios. Among the many movies under his purview were New Line Cinema’s Horrible Bosses and Horrible Bosses 2, Relativity Media’s Mirror Mirror starring Julia Roberts, and Georgetown, the directorial debut of Academy Award winning actor Christoph Waltz. He got his start working as an assistant at Pearson All American Television, run by Emmy Award winning Producer David Gerber. Cheng is a graduate of The University of California, Berkeley.
